Naya Rivera found the strength to save her son but couldn't save herself, police have confirmed.
The Glee star, 33, was today confirmed dead by Ventura County Police department after her body was found on day 6 of the search.
Ventura County Sheriff Bill Ayub confirmed the news in a press conference this evening.
During the press conference, Mr Ayub shared some tragic details in the minutes leading up to Naya's death.
Mr Ayub explained: "She [Naya] rustled up enough energy to get her son back on the boat but not enough to save herself."
He also revealed that police are "confident" that the body was Naya.
He said: "Based on the location where the body was found, physical characteristics of the body, clothing found on the body, and the physical condition of the body, as well as the absence of any other persons reported missing in the area, we are confident the body we found is that of Naya Rivera."
He said the fact that no other missing people have been reported also contributed to their decision.
He told investigators he and his mother went swimming and he got back on the boat, but "his mum never made it out of the water."
The next day that the boat was found in the northern part of the lake, in an area where the water is about 30 feet deep.
Lake Piru park rangers found her body floating near the surface of the water in an area that is 35 to 60ft deep.
