Naya Rivera wasn't wearing a life jacket when she went missing after swimming in a lake, it's been confirmed by authorities.
The former Glee actress, 33, is missing and presumed dead after she disappeared from a boat on Lake Piru in Ventura County, California, yesterday.
Her four-year-old son Josey was found alone on the boat and told his rescuers that he and his mother were swimming, but she never got back into the boat.
Josey, who Naya shares with her ex-husband Ryan Dorsey, was wearing his life jacket when he was found but hers was still in the boat, US TV news channel WPMT has reported.
Anchor Katie Collett tweeted: "#BREAKING: Actress Naya Rivera is missing after renting a pontoon boat & swimming with her 4-year-old son on Lake Piru near LA.
"The @VENTURASHERIFF says her son was wearing a life vest. She was not.
"The search for Rivera is suspended until first light."
Captain Eric Buschow, a spokesman for Ventura County Sheriff's Department, said they responded to a report of the little boy alone on a boat around 4.48pm on Wednesday.
It's been reported a fellow boater raised the alarm after spotting their vessel drifting, and Josey was found by himself on it.
A dive team and air unit were deployed in response.
Josey is thought to be unharmed.
Naya's car, a black Mercedes G Wagon, was found in the lake's car park with her handbag inside it.
Authorities were reportedly searching for a presumed drowning victim but the search has was suspended overnight to resume in the morning.
