Navy and SMU both lost to Memphis – the loser of this game is out of the West title hunt.
The winner needs to win its final game, and it needs Memphis to lose one of its last two games against USF and Cincinnati,

SMU’s offense is averaging 45 points per game with a high-powered passing game that keeps on pushing the ball down the field, but also gets help from Xavier Jones and the running game. The Doak Walker semifinalist has rushed for 18 scores, but it’s the other side of the ball that’s going to have to get the job done.
Can the Mustangs hold down the Navy running game?
Notre Dame was able to do it to a point in the 52-20 win – allowing just 281 yards to the nation’s top attack that’s been pushing 400 yards every week late in the season – and only TCU have been able to hit the 200-yard mark against the Mustangs.
Ian Book and the Irish picked apart a Navy secondary that’s about to be in for a long day. The pass rush and pressure from the SMU defensive front will be enough to stall the Midshipmen ground attack once in a while. That will be just enough to get by.
