A Navy F/A-18F Superhornet crashed Monday in Death Valley National Park, the Navy said Tuesday. The pilot ejected and suffered minor injuries and was treated and released from a Las Vegas hospital Monday night.
The aircraft was assigned to Air Test and Evaluation Squadron 9 at Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake. After the crash, units from the base as well as those from Fort Irwin Army Base and Marine Corps Air Station Yuma responded to rescue the downed pilot, the Navy said.
The jet crashed in a remote area of the park and no one else was injured, the Navy said. The Navy will assist the National Park Service with the cleanup of the crash site, it said.
The crash is under investigation.
