Navi Mumbai’s Rs 10,588 crore 20-year Draft Development Plan unveild

Navi Mumbai: The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has put its Draft Development Plan (draft DP) in public domain and has invited suggestions and objections from citizens in the next 60 days. The civic body has come out with a 20-year plan and proposes to spend Rs 10,588 crore on the development of various amenities such as gardens, roads, sporting arena, social and cultural facilities and upgradation of Cidco developed infrastructure.

However, residents feel that the city now falls short of open spaces for further development. In the proposed DP, 625 plots have been reserved for providing various amenities that include an international standard sports stadium on 75-acre land in Ghansoli. With around 5% land remaining to be developed and a projected population rise of 3,77,000 by the year 2038, NMMC is optimistic to find a solution to parking problems with 125 plots reserved for the same.

Need for coastal roads has been considered as well. The new DP has been scripted considering the city’s needs till 2038.

According to NMMC commissioner Abhijit Bangar, a lot of plots have been earmarked for public amenities. Development like missing links, widening of existing roads and improving connectivity has been included in the draft DP, said Bangar adding that a world-class sports facility has been given priority for the promotion of sports in the region. Parking has been a chronic issue for years now which could be minimised while creating node wide parking lots, added Bangar. A major aspect of the plan is the provision of 699 hectares for open spaces such as gardens, playgrounds and tree belts and this works out to point three hectares per person.
