Naval cadets $330K beach bill 'bureaucracy gone mad'

A Sunshine Coast naval cadets group has been told to remove an erosion protection wall or pay a $330,000 Queensland Government bill.

The organisation installed a concrete block wall in 2009 after erosion had washed about 20 metres of the Golden Beach park away where their cadets building is.

Navy cadets spokesman Kevin Stroud says the State Government has ordered the blocks be removed from Pumicestone Passage within 12 months.

Mr Stroud says the cadets cannot afford the $330,000 bill and if they are taken away the park and building will eventually be lost to erosion.

"It was like putting a red rag to a bull with me," he said.

"I was just a little bit upset because ... it wasn't the answer that we needed.

"We need the Department of Environment to work with state, council and Federal [Government] if need be to try and get something done.

"I feel that it's bureaucracy gone mad."
