Nausheen Ali Sardar has always been honest as far as possible in her interviews. This time is no exception. The headline of this interview gives you a fair idea of what Ekta Kapoor's Kkusum wants to tell you, but you would surely like to know why.
Did you know that a filmmaker did some shady morphing to show her kiss on screen when she actually hadn't? Did you know that she has refused OTT shows which depict exposure in the name of reality? And bet, you didn't know why Ekta Kapoor's 'Kkusum' hasn't lost faith in the institution of marriage? The next thing you should be doing is to click on the video below to understand her reason for such perspectives.
You did a few films, but when I go through the list, I see that somehow they didn't register. Why? Did they all release?
Vikram Bhatt's film released. It was eventually titled 'Three- Love, Lies, Betrayal'. It didn't do well at the box-office. They wanted to release it on the 3rd since it had a 'Three' word in it and so they released it on Wednesday. That was the best work of my life.
I'm nor arguing on your potential as an actress. Else you wouldn't have been in 'Kkusum'...
There was a clash between '3 Idiots' and Vikram Bhatt's film. Our film was originally titled 'Three'. So there was a title clash and then 'Love, Lies, Betrayal' was added to it. Let's hope that 2022 is a lucky year of my life and the rest of my movies see the light of day. I had also done 'Do Dilon Ke Khel Mein' (2010) starring Rajesh Khanna, Anu Kapoor, Rohit Nayyar. But I didn't dub for the film. And, that's another story. It took too long to complete. 'Do Dilon Ke Khel Mein' in fact was my first film. I had been asked to do a kissing scene and I had told them I won't do it. I was just asked to come near the hero (Rohit). But I saw on screen that I had kissed! Some morphing had been done and I was very angry with the director. And wait till you hear this, they didn't even keep the scene in the final draft!
Were they not sure of what they were doing? I mean, what they wanted to retain and what they wanted to cut?
There were a lot of issues on edit. It was re-edited several times.
Alright, but where does your refusal to kiss leave you? Kissing on screen has become common in films and even OTT...
Isliye toh! Main har time phas jaati hoon! I am not saying that others who do bold stuff are wrong. My upbringing is what I am. My father had told me before entering the industry to not bring shame to the family. I was chosen in the 'Miss India' competition but I didn't enter it because in those days, we weren't allowed to wear a sarong around the swimsuit. I can't change myself. As an actor, yes, you've to drop inhibitions and be ready to do everything. But I am ready to do acting and nothing else.
Have filmmakers/web show makers or their teams come to you and even before narration spoken about the bold sequences in their projects? Many actors have told us that this happens to them...
No, not right away. I get to know it in the narration. I was chosen by Dharmesh Darshan for a film. It required me to don a bikini, smooch and indulge in lovemaking on screen. He said it's a dream role but I chose to do only a classy dance number in it. I think he went ahead with Sangeeta Ghosh and Eijaz Khan. They completed the film but I don't know why it didn't release.
So what's your day like?
The COVID-19 pandemic threw my life for a toss. Initially I was quite a bit in shock. I didn't step out and over-sanitized my house. I gained a lot of weight. I have hired a trainer and nutritionist and am very careful with my workout and diet. I am trying to set up a business but it's too early to talk about it. And yes, I have signed an OTT project wherein I play the lead.
I am seeing some alphabets on the wall behind you. It reminds me of kids. The next obvious question is: Are you planning to get married soon?
I want to get married now. I am a romantic at heart. I have been wanting to get married for three years. Yeh lockdown ne romance ki dhajjiyan uda di hai. So I'm meeting people but haven't found any Mr Right yet. I had a lot of opportunities in the past. But whenever I saw a red flag, I backed out. I don't believe that you can change anyone. There are so many people who ignore red flags and feel shaadi ke baad sab theek ho jayega. We human beings are selfish. We love someone not because we love someone, we love someone because of how they make us feel. This is exactly why my marriage hasn't happened till date. The moment I find no red flag, I shall enter into matrimony.
What type of red flags have you experienced?
One, over-possessiveness. I am an actress. I will dress up well. People will look at me. But if someone has a problem in this regard, it won't work for me.
Did someone else have a problem with what you should wear?
Yes, one of them did; he was a bit psychotic. Tumhara strap dikh raha hai. tumhara dress transparent hai, your slip is showing. Too much insecurity I've seen in men.
Did someone check your phone?
Yes, that too happened; it happened in my first relationship (smiles).
