Natwest head of climate economics to speak at Wiltshire event

Leading climate figures, brands and businesses are set to descend on Wiltshire for an event which will focus on delivering a sustainable economy.

The three-day Planted Country gathering, which gets underway at the National Trust’s Stourhead house on Friday (June 9), will feature TED-stye talks and debates, wellness workshops, and eco-friendly cooking demonstrations. A botanical market of more than 60 nature-focused lifestyle brands will also be held in the Stourhead gardens.

NatWest Group’s head of climate economics and data Maria Carvalho will speak at the event as part of the nine-part Planted Unearthed talks programme, to discuss the bank’s climate agenda and how it supports customers to reduce their climate impact.

One of these areas is agriculture, a key sector to the South West economy. NatWest recently announced a partnership with frozen potato products manufacturer McCain Foods to help potato farmers transition to sustainable agricultural practices and Ms Carvalho will explain more about its support of regenerative agriculture.

Mairead Taylor, member of the NatWest South West Board, said: “NatWest Group has become the first UK bank to have science-based targets validated by the Science Based Targets Initiative. These targets underpin our climate transition plan, which outlines the steps we aim to take to at least halve the climate impact of our financing activity by 2030 and achieve our net zero climate ambition by 2050.

“Helping businesses in the transition to net zero is equally significant, which is why events like Planted Country are so important to us engaging audiences and helping them understand the support we offer.”
