NatWest bank relocating to former Select store in Bristol city centre

NatWest is to open a new bank in the unit formerly occupied by Select in Bristol city centre.

The large unit has been vacant since the clothing retailer moved to a nearby site in Broadmead at the end of 2019.

It is not known when the branch will open but planning permission for the installation of two digital signs and two automated teller machines (ATM) on the front of the building was granted by Bristol City Council in November 2019.

A spokesperson for Natwest said: "We have agreed a lease with the council.

"We will be announcing more information soon."

It is understood the bank's other Broadmead branch will close (PA)

It is understood NatWest's existing Broadmead branch will close as a result, with plans submitted to Bristol City Council describing the new bank as a 'relocation'.

Bristol Live has asked NatWest for confirmation and is awaiting a response.

In a report recommending the planning application for approval, council case officer Ben Royston said: "Overall, in principle the proposed signage, advertising surrounds to the two ATM machines and digital displays are considered acceptable subject to conditions."

The bank, will have around 20 employees, will be located opposite Bristol's only branch of Metro Bank, which replaced the former BHS store in 2017.

Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS), which owns NatWest, has closed almost three quarters of NatWest's branches over the past five years, reported The Indpendent.

NatWest's new city centre bank will be located at 45-49 Broadmead.
