NatWest announces closure of Nottinghamshire branch

NatWest bank has announced its branch in Retford will close for good next year due to falling demand.

A spokesperson for the bank confirmed that the building on Market Square will shut on April 5, adding that the closure was due to a change in customer demand.

They said that between 2017 and 2019, counter transactions for personal customers in the Retford branch dropped by 31%.

Just 14 personal customers were said to have used the bank on a regular basis in 2019.

A NatWest spokesperson said: “As with many industries, most of our customers are shifting to mobile and online banking, because it’s faster and easier for people to manage their financial lives.

“We understand and recognise that digital solutions aren’t right for everyone or every situation, and that when we close branches we have to make sure that no one is left behind.

“We take our responsibility seriously to support the people who face challenges in moving online, so we are investing to provide them with support and alternatives that work for them.”
