Nationals hero! Baseball fan takes HR ball in the chest to protect his two cans of beer

Footage of a baseball fan has gone viral after a man was caught taking a home run in the gut in order to preserve his two cans of beer.

The Washington Nationals fan, now identified as Jeff Adams, was at the weekend’s World Series game five at Nationals Park, where his side were hosting the Houston Astros.

As the Astros’ Yordan Alvarez opened the scoring with a hammering home run, Adams – holding two cans of Bud Light – found himself in the firing line.

Catching a HR ball (home run ball), especially in a World Series game, is the dream of many baseball fans.

With a beer in each hand, and the ball hurtling towards him, Adams had a decision to make.

It was then that he called on some advice from a coach he had as a kid.

“I had a Little League coach, his name was Wayne Mitchell,” Adams told the Washington Post.

“He taught me how to put my chest in front of a ball and let it bounce in front of me. So put my chest in front of it, right? And I angled down. Sure enough, hit me right in the chest. Went straight down. And I got it.”

No spills, and all the thrills. Adams’ effort was widely praised on social media.

The Astros would win the game 7-1. They meet again this evening in Houston for game six.
