National Trust gardens near Nottinghamshire to open for free during coronavirus pandemic

National Trust properties within an hour’s drive from Nottingham are keeping gardens and parkland open for free during the coronavirus pandemic.

Anyone looking for fresh air and ‘social distancing’ can take a stroll around the grounds at Belton House, near Grantham, for free from Saturday, March 21.

However, the mansion and family play areas are now closed. The cafes and shops will remain open until 5.30pm on Friday, March 20.

Kedelston Hall, near Quardon in Derbyshire, is currently closed but the garden, parkland,restaurant and shop remain open.

The grounds at Calke Abbey, at Ticknall, Derbyshire are open but the house, restaurant and shop have closed.

The trust said: “We’re aiming to open many of our gardens and parks for free during this difficult time, so the nation can use open spaces to relax and refresh, while following the government’s social distancing guidance.”


Southwell Workhouse in Notts and Sudbury Hall in Derbyshire are both closed.
