A Federal Aviation Administration computer issue shut down air travel virtually across the country for a period of time early Wednesday. That included some flights scheduled at Lexington’s Bluegrass Airport. Lauren White is the community relations manager at Bluegrass.
“The software that was impacted updates pilots about different things that they might need to know about an area that they’re flying into. So, just for safety precautions, we certainly would want pilots to be aware of that information,” said White.
White said that was the reason for the ground stop at airports nationally. The Bluegrass Airport spokeswoman said about ten flights out of Lexington were impacted by the computer glitch.
White said it’s uncommon to see a ground stop nationwide. She doesn’t anticipate any major ripple effect in delays, but White suggested downloading airlines’ mobile apps to stay in the know about flight status updates.
