National Paella Day 2019: Four of London’s best Spanish paella dishes

Notting Hill nosh: paella from Jamon Jamon on Portobello Road

Some of the tastiest Spanish food in Britain calls London home, and paella is no exception.

From family-owned restaurants to long-established eateries, there are plenty of places to indulge right here in the capital. Below are four of our favourites.

Boqueria

This Acre Lane hangout’s paella de pescado y marisco is sure to satisfy. With squid, king prawns, mussels and saffron, Boqueria aims to please, and diners can count on everything here being as tasty and fresh as the Barcelona food market the place is named after.

Iberica

Authentic: Iberica's paella

With Spanish-inspired architecture designed to transport diners to the mainland, Iberica is pleasingly authentic. Come for a traditional, dry-style Valencian paella, made with either with chicken and veggies or prawns, squid and langoustines. Two Michelin-starred Nacho Manzano of Asturias restaurant Casa Marcial is a partner in the restaurant, meaning there's a seriously knowledgable eye on that paella dish.

Jamon Jamon

Travel to either Soho, Islington or Camden for a meaty bite at popular mini-chain Jamon Jamon. The plates are meant for sharing, so grab a friend and test its namesake by ordering the chorizo paella, though the squid-ink Negra paella if definitely worth trying. Vegetarians can tuck into the Huertana paella, too. Beware each paella dish can take as long as 30-40 minutes to prepare, so save this place for a night when you’re not in a rush.

Laxeiro

This family-run restaurant has been burning bright for 35 years strong with no future end in sight. Owners Eduardo and Isabel pride themselves on seasonal, fresh ingredients, and source ingredients from East End butchers, fish mongers and greengrocers. Try their paella Mixta, a potluck of delicious meats, fish and veggies.
