National Museum of Scotland announces reopening date after months of closure

The National Museum of Scotland has announced an official reopening date after months of closure due to lockdown.

Today, the Chambers Street museum confirmed that their interactive exhibits will welcome back visitors from April 26, with a host of coronavirus measures in place.

The National Museum of Flight will also open on April 26, with the National War Museum inside Edinburgh Castle to wait until May 1 to welcome back the public.

Free to attend, the National Museum itself will return to being open from 10am-5pm, but will have a host of hygiene measures in place to keep staff and visitors safe.

This includes pre-booked timed entry, face coverings, enhanced cleaning, sneeze screens, hand sanitising stations and one-way routes in certain areas of the museum where physical distancing is not possible.

Over the coming months, the museum will also host a range of new exhibits, from the Galloway Hoard beginning May 29, to the Walter Scott experience on August 6.

It comes as other Edinburgh attractions are also finally able to give a reopening date, with sites such as Edinburgh Castle opening their doors on April 30.

You can find more information on how to book a slot at the museum here.
