National media talking about Russell Wilson as MVP candidate

The Seattle Seahawks sit with a 4-1 record after defeating the defending NFC champion Los Angeles Rams in a thrilling 30-29 game on Thursday Night Football.

Quarterback Russell Wilson was excellent yet again, and his numbers through five games this season are outstanding. He has thrown for 1,409 yards with 12 touchdowns, zero interceptions and a career-high 73.1 completion percentage.

His numbers are somewhat inflated having played one more game than everyone else in the league at this point, but there is no doubt he is a serious contender for the league’s MVP award – and national pundits are starting to take notice.

“MVP, I’m calling it right now,” former NFL defensive back and Good Morning Football analyst DeAngelo Hall said, while also referring to Wilson as “Houdini” for his ability to navigate pressure.

Former NFL player Shannon Sharpe discussed Wilson as an MVP candidate on his show Undisputed, alongside host Skip Bayless.

Additionally, Washington Post columnist Jerry Brewer wrote about Wilson as the NFL’s best franchise quarterback, saying he has, “staked his claim as a legitimate MVP candidate.”

Wilson still has a long way to go to win an MVP award, and he’ll have to beat out star quarterback Patrick Mahomes of the Chiefs, but this is no doubt this season is his best chance to win the coveted award and cement himself among the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history.
