National Lottery winners from Mayo and Kildare 'gobsmacked' after winning €1 million in prizes and reveal spending plans

Two separate National Lottery winners from Mayo and Kildare were handed €1,000,000 between them today after winning in EuroMillions and scratch card games.

The Mayo winner landed the €500,000 top prize in the EuroMillions draw on Tuesday, June 21 after purchasing their winning quick-pick ticket at the Maxol Service Station on Newport Road, in Westport, Co. Mayo.

The lucky player - who has decided to remain anonymous - spoke of their shock when they realised they won the half million-euro prize.

They said: “I’m completely gobsmacked - it’s only really starting to sink in now! It’s not a life-altering sum of money but it’s an ideal amount for me to make some nice changes to my life.

“First and foremost, I’m looking forward to paying off the rest of my mortgage and helping some family members out. It’s a lovely sum to win, but I'm going to keep working and keep life going as normal as possible.

“I might start looking into a last-minute holiday to celebrate the win in style and soak up some sun too,” they said.

Next up was a Kildare player who won the top prize of €500,000 on a €20 All Cash Extravaganza scratch card.

The winner, who also wishes to keep their win private, purchased their scratch card at Steve’s Daybreak, Main Street, Newbridge, Co. Kildare.

Their spending plans have already been made and the winner is looking forward to sharing her newfound fortune with her family once the dust settles on their win.

Meanwhile, excitement is already building across the country as Friday’s EuroMillions jackpot is set to roll towards an estimated €230million.

Tickets can be bought ahead of the 7.30 pm cut-off time for sales in-store on Friday, through the National Lottery app or online at www.lottery.ie
