National Lottery reveals man who won €795,450 was Kildare dad who successfully battled cancer

An emotional Lotto punter who collected a cheque worth almost €800,000 says this latest win is only the second biggest victory of his life, after successfully battling cancer.

The lucky winner from Co Kildare claimed a staggering €795,450 from National Lottery headquarters in Dublin on Monday.

While his identity remains anonymous, the National Lottery has revealed that the man is a Kildare dad who has spent the past few years battling a life threatening cancer diagnosis.

He was the winner of a record Lotto Match 5 + Bonus prize of €795,450 from Wednesday 15 May's draw.

The winning quick pick ticket was sold at Motorway Services Area, Ballynagalliagh Road, Mayfield, Monasterevin.

Speaking following his win, the emotional Kildare insisted that his 'health is more important than his wealth'.

He said: “I would definitely consider myself incredibly lucky in life and this huge Lotto win just confirms that.

Dublin and Kildare punters urged to check Lotto tickets after two players win combined €1.8million

"There’s no doubt that your health is your wealth so my family and I are going to enjoy every ounce of happiness that this win will bring.

"We’ve been absolutely blessed over the last couple of years and this lovely amount of money is just an extra bonus which we will all enjoy together as a family.

"We’ve already planned to pay off the mortgage and have a nice long family holiday in the next couple of weeks.”

The National Lottery has also confirmed that they are awaiting contact from the winner of last Sunday's Lotto jackpot fortune worth €6,197,310.

The winning ticket was sold at the Tesco Extra on the Donore Road in Drogheda, Co. Louth.

A National Lottery spokesperson said: “It is still early days but we are yet to hear from the winning ticket holder of last Saturday’s €6.2 million Lotto jackpot.

"There is a strong possibility that the ticketholder already knows they have won but for whatever reason are taking their time before they contact us to discuss their prize.

"They could be getting financial advice or letting it all sink in before they start to make arrangements for them to collect their truly life-changing prize."

The National Lottery advises the winner to immediately sign the back of their ticket and to contact the National Lottery Prize Claims Team on 01 836 4444.
