National Lottery reveals Ireland's luckiest EuroMillions counties

Ireland's smallest county is the luckiest in terms on EuroMillions wins.

Punters in Co Louth have won more jackpots per head of population than any other county.

Just over one in 5,000 players in the region have won a top prize since the competition began in 2004.

Dublin is fourth on the list with one person in every 6,042 people scooping a EuroMillions jackpot.

The most recent big win in the capital came in February when the Naul family syndicate collected the country's largest lottery payout after they pocketed €175million.

Meanwhile, Mayo is the second most fortunate county with 223 main prize wins.

Limerick and Wexford both claimed provincial hurling titles last week, and both counties have also been revealed as the third and fifth luckiest Lotto counties respectively.

Speaking on Thursday, a Lotto spokesman said: "One of the questions we frequently get asked here at the National Lottery, is which county is the luckiest place to buy a EuroMillions ticket.

"This is what we sought to find with these statistics. Using data from the 2016 Census combined with our own winner’s information we were able to crunch the numbers to confirm that Co Louth is the luckiest EuroMillions County in Ireland."
