New National Lottery prizes explained as it launches £5 win for 2 matching numbers

New National Lottery rules mean millions of Britons will win £5 for matching just two numbers from November, while dozens more people will have the chance to bag £1million as part of a series of special draws.

From November 7, customers who take part in "Must Be Won" games will win a fiver when they match two numbers in a draw.

These games are held when the jackpot rolls over five times.

In these draws, if no one matches all six main numbers to win the jackpot outright, the cash is shared among lower-tier prize winners.

Now only two numbers will be enough for a prize.

It means around a million players per draw could collect £5 - in addition to a free lucky dip.

The change will come into force from 7 November (E+)

"We know an unexpected extra fiver - which could be spent on a box of chocolates, a book or magazine, or to treat a friend to a coffee - can really put a smile on someone's face," said Camelot's Neil Brocklehurst.

The move will come into force from 7 November.

It forms part of a series of other games that will launch this autumn including a special £20million "Must Be Won" game on 5 September to help give the struggling high street a boost.

New prizes this autumn

  • From Saturday, November 7, players who match two main numbers in a Lotto 'Must Be Won' draw where no one matches all six main numbers to win the jackpot outright will also scoop a share of the jackpot – winning £5 in addition to their free lucky dip (previously the jackpot was only shared between cash prize winners).
Each of the other prize tiers can still expect to receive a share of the jackpot, resulting in boosted prizes.

  • A £20million 'special' Lotto ‘Must Be Won’ draw will take place on Saturday, September 5.

  • This will then be followed by two mega EuroMillions draws – one guaranteeing 20 UK millionaires on Friday, September 18 and one offering a boosted jackpot of over £100 million on Friday, September 25.

Under current rules, the Lotto jackpot can only roll five times before it must be won.

If no one scoops the jackpot, it's rolled over to a 'Must be Won' draw where the cash is shared amongst all of the winners.

This will include those who match two numbers from November.

As a result, Lotto estimates that around a million people will scoop £5 (in addition to their usual free lucky dip) in these Lotto 'Rolldowns'.
