National Lottery changes rules making it much easier to win

The National Lottery is introducing new rules which will make it much easier for players to win

Some of the new rules will kick in once the jackpot has rolled over five times - making it a must-win - and will see a million people scoop a cash prize.

At that point players will be able to claim a prize after matching just two numbers - instead of the usual three for a minimum cash payout.

Anyone matching two numbers at that point will win £5, reports The Mirror.

Previously the extra cash was rolled down to players who matched three numbers - and the last time that happened 128,703 ticket-holders claimed £96 each.

The new rule could see millions of people pick up a prize.

Lottery commercial director Neil Brocklehurst said: “We know an unexpected extra fiver — which could be spent on chocolates, a book, or coffee for a friend — can really put a smile on someone’s face.”

Camelot is launching the new rules on November 7 with a special Must Be Won draw.

Around a million players match two numbers in a typical draw, picking up a free lucky dip - but no cash.

The new system will mean that as well as free entry to the next draw, there's a cash reward sometimes too.

Other changes coming from Camelot include three “Big September” draws - starting with a £20million Must Be Won on Saturday 5.

There's also a mega EuroMillions draw guaranteeing 20 UK millionaires on Friday, September 18.

A boosted EuroMillions jackpot of over £100million will then be up for grabs the following Friday.
