National League top scorer odds reveal a big Notts County surprise

The National League top scorer odds contain a few surprises - esepcially as far as last season's golden boot winner Kyle Wootton is concerned.

Wootton scored 18 goals for the Magpies in all competitions last season in what was a memorable first season in the club's famous black and white stripes following his switch from Scunthorpe.

But despite that success, three Notts players are fancied by the bookies to finish higher than him in the chase to be the division's top scorer.

Wootton is a surprising 40/1 shot to finish the most feared striker in the division, but it is winger Callum Roberts who William Hill feel has the best chance of finishing the campaign as the top dog.

The former Newcastle winger has been a revelation since his move to Meadow Lane back in January and the bookmakers see him as a 20/1 shot.

That is the same price as Notts' new Portuguese signing Ruben Rodrigues after he moved to Meadow Lane from Dutch second division side Den Bosch earlier in the summer.

Wes Thomas, who finished in double figures last season, but behind Wootton, is rated 25/1. Enzio Boldewijn is 66/1 while Elisha Sam is 40/1.

The favourite is Dagenham's Paul McCallum at 9/1. Second favourite is Yeovil's Rhys Murphy at 10/1 and third in the pecking order is Solihull Moors forward Adam Rooney who is the same price as Murphy.
