National League leaders Leyton Orient receive incredible red card v Sutton United

Leyton Orient's charge towards the Football League continued with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Sutton United, in a game that saw a remarkable incident.

Jonah Ayunga gave the hosts the lead in the second half but Dan Happe equalised for Orient, before one of the most incredible red cards ever witnessed took place.

James Dayton was on the end of a crunching tackle and left the field on a stretcher with a suspected broken leg, then throwing his shoe towards the referee and earning himself a red card.

A dramatic conclusion then occurred as the visitors were awarded a late penalty, which Macauley Bonne smashed into the net to seal all three points for Orient and sent the club back to the top of the league ahead of Salford City.

Although the throw of the boot did not strike the referee, it is unsurprising that the officials took action against the 30-year-old winger and he can have few complaints.

With the likelihood that Dayton will now miss the remainder of Orient's promotion charge due to injury though, it is certainly a scenario that added insult to his injury.
