GANDHINAGAR: Jyothi Yarraji was 'unlucky' for the third time, despite winning gold in 100m hurdles and became the first Indian to breach the sub-13 second barrier at the National Games on Tuesday.
The Andhra athlete, who created the National Record (NR) of 13.23s earlier this year, clocked 12.79s on Tuesday. However, her timing wasn't registered as an NR as it came with +2.5m/s wind assist. As per the rules, the acceptable limit of wind assist is +2m/s.
This is the third time this year that Jyothi has missed bettering her record.
In May, she had clocked 13.11s in the UK and followed it up with 13.04s in the Netherlands. However, the timing couldn't be registered as NR due to wind assist being more than +2m/s.
"Everytime it happens that I run a good race and then I wait to see the board to check the wind. I don't know why it happens to me every time. Maybe bad luck," Jyothi said. Telangana's Nandini Agasara (13. 38s) and Jharkhand's Sapna Kumari (13. 42s) took silver and bronze, respectively.
In the men's javelin event, Services' Manu DP won gold with a best throw of 80. 71m. Uttar Pradesh's Rohit Yadav bagged silver with a throw of 78.78m, while the bronze went to Delhi's Abhishek Drall (79.01m). With the throw, Manu achieved the Asian Games mark of 80m.
Assam's Amlan Borgohain broke the 200m -mark twice, first in the heats and then in the final. He left the field in his wake, as he blazed from the start, sped around the curve and consolidated on the home straight to the beam in 20.55s in the final.
