National Fish and Chips Day 2019: Where you can get half price fish and chips in Ireland

It's National Fish and Chips Day in Ireland and, to celebrate, over 100 chippers will be offering half price meals.

The Irish Traditional Italian Chippers Association (ITICA) is marking its 10th National Fish and Chips Day on Wednesday, May 22.

From Castlebar to Clongriffin, there's over 100 ITICA outlets that will be giving customers fish and chips for half price.

You can see them here:

Last year, Peter Borza of ITICA said: "We look forward to ITICA National Fish & Chips Day every year.

"It is a hectic but fun-filled day that gives us the opportunity to celebrate 128 years of the ‘one and one’ and most importantly to thank our local communities for their ongoing support.

“We established ITICA back in January 2010 to highlight the heritage behind the Irish Italian chippers in Ireland, and emphasise what makes our family run chippers unique."

For the day that's in it, here is a list previously compiled by the Irish Mirror of chip shops that you must visit before you die.

However, not all of these are participating in the half price deal.

KC & Sons & Sons, Cork

Famed for huge queues, the food is worth the wait. Plus you won't even be waiting that long - whether it's straight up chipper nosh, their King Creole or mouthwatering Mexican pittas you're after.

The Fish Shop, Smithfield

Originally a pop-up at the Blackrock Market, the guys have found their forever home in Smithfield. With just the fish of the day on the menu, it's straight up fish and chips.

The Saltee Chipper, Kilmore Quay

This fish is as fresh as you can get it - picked up from boats just 20 feet away, and with queues out the door, this Wexford hotspot deserves its amazing reputation.

The Reel Dingle, Kerry

You won't find much better than the mouthwatering monkfish at The Reel Dingle Fish Company, head to Bridge Street to try them for yourself.

Macari's, Glasnevin

A hotspot for DCU students when they don't fancy whipping up any more pasta. And the students are right - the St Pappin's Road Macari's is a good one.

Henry and Rose, Bray

A day at the seaside would be incomplete without some fresh fish and chips and Henry and Rose ticks all the boxes in Bray.

Quinlan's, Killarney

Quinlan's Seafood Bar serves up delicious lobster, calamari and a knockout side salad to boot if you're trying to be that little bit healthier.

Johnnie Walker's, Waterford

This family business has been on the go for 50 years this year - stop by the Mayors Walk for what we're told are Waterford's best chips.

Frank's Chips, Carrigtwohill

East Cork's dual carriageway may be a godsend, but you might need to stop off it to try some of Frank's delicious - and great value - menu.

Monte Carlo, Monaghan

With an extensive menu, Monte Carlo is Monaghan's favourite - perhaps for its weekend delivery service along with the tasty grub.

McDonagh's, Galway

Just a stone's throw from the Spanish Arch, McDonagh's reputation is second to none - and it's great for a bit of Galway Races' sustenance.

Jackie Lennox Chip Shop, Cork

Another Cork gem, this is every student in the city's favourite pitstop - and with good reason.

Donkey Ford's, Limerick

Cheap and cheerful, you're always guaranteed a good feed in Donkey Ford's.

Beshoffs, Howth

A Howth institution, nothing beats a bite of scampi by the sea.

Leo Burdock, Dublin

With seven locations across Dublin, it wouldn't be a best chippers in Ireland list without Leo Burdock. Over 100 years old, they really know their fish and chips.

Mr Chippie, Letterkenny

Always a sure bet for good value for your money, we're told this is the best in Donegal.
