National care home firm submits plans for another big development in Derby

A national care home giant has put forward plans for a new site in Derby which could create up to 80 new jobs.

Avery Healthcare Group has applied to Derby City Council to build the 63-bed care home, with its own hair salon and cinema, on vacant land in Burton Road, Littleover.

According to the application, the accommodation would be set across three-storeys and would feature day spaces and activity rooms.

The land on which it wants to build was previously the site of a car dealer, but it has since been vacant for several years.

Back in 2017, planning permission was granted for retirement living accommodation on the site, which included 37 apartments, eight houses, communal facilities, landscaping and car parking.

According to the latest planning application, the new care home would create around 80 new jobs, half of which would be full-time positions.

In planning documents submitted to the city council by Harris Irwin Associates, on behalf of Avery Healthcare Group, it said: “The design will be light, bright, spacious and homely with easy access to amenities including dining, lounges, bistro, cinema and hairdressing.

“All ground floor amenity areas and bedrooms will have direct access to external landscaped areas.

“The outdoor areas will be an attractive setting for residents as well as providing a better quality of life and well being.”

If given the go-ahead it would be Avery’s second care home to built in Littleover in recent years.

Avery is the same company behind the Derby Heights care home, which opened next to the Nuffield hospital, in Rykneld Road.
