National Board of Review Awards Gala: Lady Gaga wins the night in a 23,000-crystal Ralph Lauren dress

Lady Gaga is fast becoming the queen of the 2019 awards season red carpet, stealing the show at the Golden Globes on Sunday night in a huge Maison Valentino gown (paired with £2 million diamonds).

And it looks like she’s only getting started. On Tuesday night in New York Gaga stepped out in yet another show-stopping look for the National Board of Review Awards Gala.

The singer-turned-actress wore a sparkly, jet black gown with tuxedo lapels, teamed with a gigantic gold and ebony feather cape - all very old Hollywood.

Gaga was there to pick up the award for Best Actress alongside Bradley Cooper and Sam Elliott, who won Best Director and Best Supporting Actor respectively.

A post shared by Ralph Lauren (@ralphlauren) on Ralph Lauren revealed that the dress was a “tuxedo-inspired halter gown embellished with more than 23,000 jet crystals”, which glistened as she walked along. It seems like there’s something in the water as another tuxedo-inspired piece, Sandra Oh’s goop jumpsuit that she wore to the Golden Globes after party, also made an appearance earlier this week.

Ralph Lauren revealed that the dress was a “tuxedo-inspired halter gown embellished with more than 23,000 jet crystals”.

Lady Gaga’s feathered cape bore a striking resemblance to one from Ralph Lauren’s 2012 AW collection, which British Vogue revealed at the time was crafted from ostrich feathers.

Gaga gave an emotional winner’s speech where she thanked Bradley Cooper. “Bradley, I would not be standing here without you. Thank you so much for entrusting me to be the first leading actress in your directorial debut”, she said.

She also reflected on how painful past experiences fed into her role.

Gaga explained, “Ally was all the things I was not when I went out into the world to pursue my dreams. I had to reflect on an earlier time in my life, in high school and earlier when I was bullied. I felt unheard. I was traumatized by people telling me over and over again that I wasn't and couldn't become who I dreamed of becoming."

Well, she's certainly proved them all wrong. With a Golden Globe for Best Original Song, an NBR award for Best Actress and a whole slew of nominations and ceremonies to come, Gaga is showing she's a force to be reckoned with.
