Ajin Panjapan, a well-known writer who was named a national artist in the field of literature in 1991, died on Saturday at Bang Pai Hospital in Bangkok's Phasi Charoen district. He was 91.
A bathing rite for Ajin will be held in Sala 9 of Wat Tri Thotsathep Voraviharn on Sunday at 4pm.
The third child of Piboon and Mrs Krasae Panjapan, Ajin was born on Oct 11, 1930 in Bang Len district of Nakhon Pathom province. As his father was an Interior Ministry official who served as district chief and provincial governor in many provinces, Ajin travelled with his family to many parts of Thailand.
Cha-um Panjapan, Ajin's elder sister, is a well-known novelist.
Known for his love of books and deep interest in news and information from various media outlets, Ajin began writing as a youth. Many of his stories and articles were published in books and magazines, leading to him become a role model for young writers.
He was one of the founders of Fa Muang Thai, a magazine once highly popular among Thai readers.
His most outstanding work was a series of short stories on life at ore mines.
Ajin was awarded with the title of national artist for literature in 1991.
