It looked like one of the country’s best wide-receivers for the 2020 class was a slam dunk to land at Ohio State for awhile. Rakim Jarrett out of St. John’s College in Washington, D.C. continually Tweeted out love for the Buckeyes, joked about being teammates with another highly touted recruit interested in coming to Columbus, and had seemingly good relationship with the coaching staff.
Then the waffling started with the crumbling of the relationship between Rakim Jarrett and Ohio State. Slowly and surely we began to see less and less signs to point to his imminent commitment to the Buckeyes — including a no-holds barred college tour through sweet tea and grits country.
Now, the chance at getting that verbal is all but gone it appears. That’s because over the weekend Rakim Jarrett, the No. 2 receiving prospect and No. 13 overall recruit according to 247Sports announced a commitment down in the Bayou at LSU.
Ohio State still has plenty of top-end wide-receivers on the roster and as targets going forward, but this one has to sting — especially seeing how most of the recruiting experts had him leaning heavily towards becoming a Buckeye.
Look for Ohio State to step up its recruitment on guys like Julian Fleming now — 247Sports’ No. 1 rated wide-receiver.
