Florida man charged in fatal shooting over parking space will remain in jail
LARGO, Fla. _ Michael Drejka will not have his bail reduced from $100,000, a judge ruled Thursday morning.
Denying arguments from Drejka's lawyers to lower the amount to $25,000, county Judge Joseph Bulone called it "a fair and a reasonable bond under all the facts and circumstances of the case." Bulone set Drejka's original bail when prosecutors charged him last week then maintained it at his first appearance.
Drejka, accused of manslaughter in last month's shooting of Markeis McGlockton, has been in custody at the Pinellas County Jail since Aug. 13. He sat in court Thursday in orange jail scrubs next to his three-lawyer team.
Drejka, 48, shot McGlockton, 28, July 19 at the Circle A Food Store near Clearwater during an argument over a handicap-reserved parking space. Drejka confronted McGlockton's girlfriend about why she had parked in the space without a permit.
McGlockton, inside the store buying snacks with his 5-year-old son, heard of the brewing tension, walked outside and shoved Drejka to the ground. Drejka then took out a Glock .40-caliber handgun and shot McGlockton in the chest.
