Philly DA faces more federal corruption charges
PHILADELPHIA _ Federal authorities filed an additional set of charges against Philadelphia District Attorney Seth Williams on Tuesday, less than a month before his scheduled trial date on bribery and corruption charges.
In a 29-count superseding indictment, prosecutors alleged Williams misspent campaign money to fund personal events at a Philadelphia social club as well as trips to health spas that included massages, facials and clothing.
In addition, investigators accused the city's embattled top prosecutor of using official government vehicles obtained through federal grants as if they were his own personal fleet of cars.
Williams, 50, faces trial May 31 on earlier allegations that he repeatedly accepted luxury gifts of travel, clothing, and a used sports car from wealthy businessmen seeking his help with their legal woes.
He has denied any wrongdoing in connection with his office.
