Nathaniel Clyne leaves Liverpool to complete Bournemouth loan move

Liverpool defender Nathaniel Clyne has completed his move to Bournemouth on loan until the end of the season.

The 27-year-old has made just five appearances for the Reds so far this term after finding himself behind both Joe Gomez and Trent Alexander-Arnold in the pecking order.

And with James Milner also able to fill in at right-back, Jurgen Klopp has elected to allow Clyne to depart Anfield in search of regular first-team football.

Clyne told Bournemouth's official website: “I’m really excited by this opportunity. It’s great chance for me to come and play football.

“I’ve spoken to the manager and we’ve talked about what we can achieve for the remainder of the season. It’s a great club with a great story. I can’t wait to get going.”

However, Standard Sport understands there is no option to buy included in the terms of the loan deal.

Cherries boss Eddie Howe has been searching for January reinforcements at full-back after both Adam Smith and Simon Francis sustained serious knee injuries.

Junior Stanislas was used as a makeshift right-sided defender in the recent 3-3 draw with Watford and so Clyne’s arrival represents a significant boost to his options in that position.

Clyne’s final Liverpool appearance of the season came in last month’s 3-1 win over Manchester United at Anfield.

The former England man was handed a rare start in the absence of Alexander-Arnold, Gomez and Milner and impressed as the Reds defeated their arch-rivals in convincing fashion.

He joins Dominic Solanke on the south coast after the England Under-21 international completed his move to the Vitality Stadium earlier today.
