Nathan Wood to Hibs transfer update as announcement expected imminently for Middlesbrough defender

Hibs are closing in on a loan for Middlesbrough defender Nathan Wood and could announce the deal on Monday, according to a report.

Jack Ross has been chasing a new centre-back throughout the window and Paul Hanlon's injury leaves them with just two senior options.

Darren McGregor and Ryan Porteous have performed well but Hibs want cover while they wait on Hanlon's return.

Wood emerged as a target last week and it's now being reported by the Scotsman that the deal is set to be finalised.

He will join the Premiership club on a season-long loan and it could even be announced on Monday, allowing Ross to focus on other targets ahead of Tuesday's transfer deadline.

Speaking on Wood over the weekend, Ross said: "He was here today. More to get a medical done than anything else. Hopefully we can announce it soon.

"He gives us that defensive reinforcement. He is a really good young player with a big future ahead of him.

“He’ll hopefully join us for the season and strengthen the group. I've said beforehand that we were looking to strengthen middle to front and with Jamie’s injury, we might need to do more of that as well.

“But we’ll look to be active and strengthen the group before we head to Tynecastle.”
