Nathan Wood Hibs transfer agreed as Jack Ross left buzzing for tantalising top of the table Edinburgh Derby

Kevin Nisbet missed Hibs' last game with an illness.

But he was back to leave poor Livingston feeling pig sick.

The Scotland striker's opening goal at Easter Road set Jack Ross' side on their way to another three points that kept them top of the Premiership pile.

And their other star turn, Martin Boyle, popped up with a later clincher.

The Hibees' victory was just what they wanted before the international break – with a mouth-watering, top of the table Edinburgh derby clash with Hearts up next.

Livingston don't have their troubles to seek, with players ill, injured or unable to play.

They put up a valiant fight in the circumstances but Nisbet's opener was the game-changing moment.

Afterwards, Ross admitted that if his side put the graft in – his big players at the top end of the pitch will provide the quality.

Having agreed a deal to sign Middlesbrough defender Nathan Wood on loan, he said: “You have to do the fundamentals which is keeping a clean sheet and dominating the ball.

“But then, you do need quality. Every team relies on that at both ends of the pitch.

“And we had that with the two goals. I wouldn't overlook the parts played by Paul McGinn and Scott Allan in the build-up.

“But the finishes from Nisbet and Boyle are indicative of how both players feel right now.

“The fact is, they are top players in this league, which is great for me.

“Kevin came off with cramp in his calf but he'll be OK for Scotland.

“I'm really pleased with our start to the season, it's been excellent.

“We had to be patient today and show trust in what we do.

“But to keep a clean sheet, stay top of the league – that was the incentive for us and we've done it.”

And Ross can't wait for the Edinburgh derby when it comes around after the break.

He said: “That game is a big one, anyway, regardless of where the teams are in the league.

“We missed them last season but it now coincided with supporters back in the stadium and both of us having a good start to the season.

“So it's brilliant for the city and the two clubs. It's one we're really looking forward to.”
