Nathan Wood Hibs loan transfer agreed with Middlesborough man set to bolster Jack Ross' defence

Nathan Wood is set to sign on loan for Hibs from from Middlesbrough.

Jack Ross has been keen to add another central defender to his squad after a recent injury to Paul Hanlon left the Easter Road club light in that area of the pitch.

The experienced Darren McGregor has stepped in but Ross wants more cover at the back in addition to the veteran defender and Ryan Porteous.

And Edinburgh Live Sport understands that a deal has been agreed with the Championship club to take Wood on loan.

The 19-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at Crewe Alexandra and has made one Carabao Cup appearance for Neil Warnock’s side this season.

But he’s unlikely to feature regularly on Teesside this season and will take the opportunity to get more game time under his belt in Edinburgh.

The England Under 20 international has been capped for his country at every level since Under 16s and has 12 appearances for Boro in total.

Wood is unlikely to be the only new arrival in Leith before the transfer deadline on Tuesday night.

Christian Doidge’s injury means the big Welshman will be unavailable until Christmas at the earliest.

That’s forced Ross to look for another striker even after bringing in James Scott on loan from Hull City.

Jamie Murphy’s injury against Livingston may force Hibs to look at another wise player as well, depending on its severity.
