Nathan Patterson waits on Scotland decision as Steve Clarke admits 'difficult' calls ahead of Euro 2020 opener

Rangers starlet Nathan Patterson will find out today if he has been given the nod for Scotland's opening Euro 2020 clash.

The right back is expected to be behind Stephen O'Donnell in the pecking order for the opening game but Steve Clarke admits he has had to make some 'difficult' decisions because of the quality in the squad.

The youngster impressed on his debut last week in the friendly with Luxembourg and has been assured for Rangers when he's replaced James Tavernier.

He's admitted that things could have gone much different after his Covid-19 blunder but he's managed to put it behind him with some excellent performances on the pitch.

And now Clarke admits that he's had to make some big calls, which could be a boost for Patterson if he's managed to earn himself a starting spot with training performances.

Scotland take on Czech Republic at 2pm for the first game of the tournament to end a 23-year wait for a major tournament.

And Clarke said: "As you would expect, it's a difficult selection process - 26 players all doing their best in training, a really high level of training.

"A lot of them have done really well for me before in international games. Difficult decisions, but I am paid to make them."
