Nathan Patterson is set to be handed his Scotland debut against Luxembourg tomorrow.
The Scots play their final warm-up game ahead of the big one against the Czech Republic to kick-off their Euro 2020 campaign at Hampden a week on Monday.
And boss Steve Clarke has dropped a major hint that Patterson is in line to make his national team bow at the tender age of 19. The Rangers full back was forced to stay behind as his teammates played out a 2-2 draw with the Netherlands in midweek.
John Fleck’s positive Covid test meant Patterson, David Marshall, John McGinn, Grant Hanley and Che Adams didn’t travel after being identified as close contacts of Fleck’s.
The Sheffield United midfielder is still isolating and won't be involved tomorrow, but the others are back in training and Clarke’s pre-match comments suggest that Patterson will be involved as he experiments ahead of the tournament.
“John needs to isolate until the middle of next week," said Clarke. "The rest of the boys have been training as normal. Bad for John but good for everyone else.
“They trained every day so no set-backs physically. You can expect to see the others play. They are all fit and available, except for John, for the Luxembourg game which is good.
“We'll use this game to look at one or two different things. We want to get some minutes into players whose season may have finished a little while ago and maybe look at one or two combinations that might stand us in good stead during the tournament.
“I've got a few things to think about overnight but it will be a good team that's on the pitch.”
