It's been an eye-opening start to life for Nathan Patterson at Everton.
Following the right-back's decision to leave Rangers, boss Rafa Benitez was shown the door at Goodison Park on Sunday - before Patterson has even played a minute for the Merseyside outfit.
The club called time on the Spaniard's seven-month spell in charge following a nightmare defeat to strugglers Norwich City.
He was up against it from the start as a Champions League winner with Liverpool and a miserable run has brought about an early end to Benitez's tenure.
It leaves the Toffees hovering dangerously close to the English Premier League relegation zone as they hunt for their next boss, with multiple reports suggesting Roberto Martinez is favoured for a shock return.
There is no doubt the quick-fire decision will have sent shockwaves through the dressing room, but it may have impact on the Scotland right-back most off all.
The 20-year-old is one of just three January recruits to be sold on a move to Merseyside, and he admitted at the time that Benitez was the key factor in leaving behind his boyhood heroes.
When asked about how important it was for him that Benitez was interested in him, Patterson told Everton TV: "That was a great moment for me, knowing that the manager at Everton really wanted me here.
"That really made my decision to be honest.
"He has said to me 'make sure you are ready'. The first question he asked me is if i was ready, so that's a good sign.
"I'm really looking forward to him and I can't wait to get started."
