Rangers legend Barry Ferguson insists Nathan Patterson must be given a chance to shine at the Euros in the coming weeks.
Steve Clarke included the Ibrox starlet as one of two right backs and he'll compete with Motherwell's Stephen O'Donnell for the starting spot on the right of defence.
But there's a wide perception Clarke may opt to stick with his trusted first choice - with O'Donnell also previously featuring for him at club level during his Kilmarnock spell - rather than uncapped teen Patterson.
However Ferguson, speaking on Go Radio's Football Show, believes Patterson will prove his worth just as he has done when filling in for James Tavernier at club level.
Neither player featured in Wednesday's friendly with the Netherlands as they were kept behind at the team's Spanish training camp with Clarke choosing to be ultra-cautious in the wake of midfielder John Fleck's positive Covid test.
"I think if he’s given the opportunity, a lot of people will be impressed," Ferguson said.
"I have no doubt that if he plays, he’ll go out and do a proper job for Scotland.
"If he’s good enough, give him the opportunity."
