Nathan Patterson facing Rangers transfer crossroads as path to Everton starting spot becomes clear

In-demand Nathan Patterson looks to have a clear route to the first-team at Everton with the Premier League side to revive their interest.

The Toffees saw a £5 million bid was laughed out at the start of the season but could move to tempt Rangers this month.

Pressure is mounting on Rafa Benitez and he will be desperate to add new faces with the club tumbling down the table.

Right-back has become a problem position for the Spaniard with captain Seamus Coleman struggling for form.

The Ireland international was switched to left-back in the defeat to Brighton as former Celtic loan flop Jonjoe Kenny was handed a rare start.

Following his return to Merseyside in the summer, Kenny has struggled for any game time under Benitez, and made his first Premier League start of the season in the 3-2 defeat to the Seagulls.

Patterson would seemingly face a straight route into the Everton side if the switch was made this month.

It's not always a luxury that he has enjoyed at Ibrox with captain James Tavernier making the right-back spot his own.

Speaking ahead of the clash with Brighton, Benitez said on the Goodison Park transfer strategy: "I am concentrating on the games, I'm preparing the tactics and trying to be focused on that.

"At the same time, the board is working on new signings. We are close to players, yes. Do I need to worry about that? No.

"Someone else is doing the job and then we have had conversations. Everything is in place to move forward."
