Nathan Patterson facing Everton turbulence as Wayne Rooney in fresh link to replace Rafa Benitez

Nathan Patterson could be facing a quick-fire managerial change when he seals his Everton move with Rafa Benitez now favourite in the English Premier League sack race.

The Spaniard is 11/10 to be given the boot at Goodison Park after a miserable run of form - with Toffees hero and England legend Wayne Rooney joint favourite to take over.

Derby County gaffer Rooney is top of the odds list along with Denmark’s Kasper Hjulmand and they are closely followed by former Spurs and Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo.

Sunday’s home loss to Brighton was the latest in a long line of poor results for Benitez and is on the verge of completing the signing of Rangers rising star Patterson to boost his squad.

The Scotland man is undergoing his medical and the deal should be confirmed with Everton travelling to Hull City for this weekend’s FA Cup clash.

That is followed by a crucial league showdown with former Leicester City where Patterson could come up against his former Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers.

William Hill Spokesperson, Rupert Adams, said: “Plenty have been impressed by what Wayne Rooney has done at Derby and he looks an obvious fit to take over at former side Everton if Rafael Benitez loses his job.

“A string of bad performances have left Benitez in danger and we make Rooney the 7/2 co-favourite alongside Denmark manager Kasper Hjulmand to take over at Goodison Park if the Everton hierarchy think a change is needed.”
