Nathan Patterson blow for Rangers as rising right-back latest Scotland U21 star caught up in Covid crisis

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has revealed the Premiership league leaders will be without Nathan Patterson for the next fortnight.

The 19-year-old right-back has been identified as one of eight close contacts after three positive tests while Scotland U21s were away on international duty.

Gerrard admits he has sympathy with his other Premiership bosses as Derek McInnes let rip and Celtic manager branded the positive results as a 'shambles.'

Aberdeen were without Lewis Ferguson and Connor McLennan for their trip to Ibrox and the Premiership champions didn't have David Turnbull to call upon during their 2-2 draw at Easter Road. Motherwell were also without two key men.

Gerrard said: "We've had some challenges ourselves this week, Steven Davis dropped out of the internationals due to personal reasons and we only really had Steven yesterday. He wasn't available to start.

"Young Nathan Patterson is one of those players as well who we won't see for two weeks.

"You've got to feel for all the managers at the moment, you get challenges that fall unexpectedly, you've just got to deal with it and get on with it.

"But, of course, from Aberdeen's personnel, we were aware that had changed."
