Nathan Patterson and Rangers Covid Five ban upheld as SFA stand by punishment

The SFA have stood by their six-match ban for Rangers ' Covid rule breakers following an appeal.

First team trio Nathan Patterson, Bongani Zungu, Calvin Bassey and kids Dapo Mebude and Brian Kinnear, both out on loan, were handed a six-match suspension in March.

The players were caught at a party in breach of coronavirus regulations and were hit with the stern punishment having also been disciplined internally by the club.

However, the Ibrox club launched an appeal of the decision with boss Steven Gerrard defending of wing-back Patterson.

Gerrard has claimed the decision to hand out a four game ban, with two more carried over for next season, was "harsh".

The Rangers appeal meant that any suspension was delayed until after the governing bodies final verdict, allowing Patterson to feature against Celtic in the Scottish Cup last weekend.

Despite the appeal being heard on Monday a delay in the verdict meant that the five were free to play against St Johnstone on Wednesday night.

However, the SFA have confirmed that the ban will now be carried out meaning the players will miss the next four games, with two matches suspended.

These are the St Johnstone clash in the Scottish Cup, the final derby day with Celtic, the last away day of the campaign against Livingston, and trophy day against Aberdeen at Ibrox.

However, these could be altered if Rangers defeat the Perth Saints on Sunday, as they would secure a Scottish Cup semi-final spot on the weekend of May 8.
