Nathan McQueen devastated to hear that the Tokyo Paralympic games are postponed

West Lothian archer Nathan McQueen was devastated to hear that Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games have been postponed.

The Olympic and Paralympic Games in Japan were put off until next year because of the worldwide coronavirus pandemic, with various countries saying they would not be sending athletes.

In a joint statement, the organisers of Tokyo 2020 and the International Olympic Committee said: “In the present circumstances and based on the information provided by the World Health Organisation the IOC president and the prime minister of Japan have concluded that the Games of the XXXII Olympiad in Tokyo must be rescheduled to a date beyond 2020 but not later than summer 2021, to safeguard the health of the athletes, everybody involved in the Olympic Games and the international community.”

Nathan previously competed at Rio 2016 Paralympic Games and was disappointed to finish ninth but had been training hard recently and moved himself up into fourth place in the world ranking so the news came as a big disappointment.

He said: “Gutted doesn’t cover it but it’s the correct call.Life is more important than any sport. We will regroup and get ready for 2021 with the same dreams and goals.”
