Nathan Evans wowed by Scots primary school pupil's cover of sea shanty Wellerman

Wellerman charttopper Nathan Evans was wowed by a primary school pupil who performed a rendition of his hit sea shanty.

Former Postie and Tik Toker turned singing star Nathan has been riding high in the charts with his Wellerman hit.

It's a well-known whaling song which refers to the "wellermen", supply ships owned by the British Weller brothers who emigrated to New Zealand.

And he couldn't help but be impressed by the cover of the song by Renfrewshire school pupil Shae.

After Renfrewshire Council shared a video of the little boy singing on Twitter, Nathan said: "This is absolutely fantastic, go on wee man!"

Shae's teacher Sophie Coyle at St Paul's Primary in Foxbar Paisley explained that Shae loved learning about pirates so much, he got up and performed the Wellerman sea shanty.

Sophie said "He created a really great atmosphere in the class. All of his classmates were amazed at his talent!"

Nathan wasn't the only to be impressed as one fan said: "You've got some competition Nathan."

Another added: "A great school"

While another said: "Fantastic wee guy!!!"

Nathan meantime has had a busy time of it since reaching number one in the official UK charts.

As well as buying a new house with his wife, he has been seen in the studio with fellow Scots Saint Phnx who said they have been making some Wellerman sea shanty's of their own.

In a funny Tik Tok video the band attempted to mock Nathan as he walked in and surprised them, looking slightly unimpressed.

Nathan later said of the attempt: "Genuinely greetin with laughter."
