Nathan Evans begs Lewis Capaldi to 'do him a solid' to help new song reach number one

Scots star Nathan Evans has attemped to strike a deal with with fellow singing sensation Lewis Capaldi as he bids to get to number one in the charts again. The Wellerman singer revealed he has a new song coming out next week, on September 9.

However, it's the same day as the Someone You Loved hitmaker Lewis plans to release his long-awaited new single, Forget Me, after a three-year break from releasing music.

Nathan wrote on Twitter: "Hi @LewisCapaldi awryt mate. I've got a wee song called Drunken Sailor coming out on the 9th of September, the same day as your new release. Can you please move it to next week or something as I was going straight to number one, and now I’ve no chance. Not ideal. Cheers."

In the thread, he added: "@LewisCapaldi love you and no hard feelings, but do me a solid babe, thanks xo"

The 27-year-old singer from Airdrie is rose to fame for his sea shanties, which he began posting on TikTok in 2020. After covering the folk song Wellerman, it shot straight to the charts and spent seven weeks in the top three, before knocking Olivia Rodrigo's Driver's Licence off the top spot - where it had been for two months.

He's hoping for the same fate for Drunken Sailor, but it's sure to be a tough battle with Lewis releasing Forget Me the very same day.

The Glasgow-born singer performed a snippet of the new single for the first time to 20,000 adoring fans at London's O2 Arena on September 2, saying he has "never been so nervous in his whole life".

He even joked on Instagram that he'd "joined the illuminati" during his three-year musical hiatus.
