Nathan Ellington's touching tribute to Bristol Rovers after Memorial Stadium return

Nathan Ellington said stepping out onto the Memorial Pitch again brought back some special memories.

The former Bristol Rovers star was taking part in a tournament with fans, organised by Play With A Legend, and he rolled back the years to find the back of the net.

Gas legends Ian Holloway and Aaron Lescott also took to the field in the matches, and Ellington admitted it was a nice thing to be a part of.

He said: "It feels amazing, it just brings back all the memories of when I first came here, playing under Ian Holloway as well - another great guy who played a massive part in the development of my game.

"I've got everything to thank him and his team for and Gary Penrice, Garry Thompson and the others who were there as well.

"It's just great to be back, it's pretty much how I left it, it's lovely."

Ellington found the time to catch up with his old Rovers boss Holloway and revealed the two had followed each others' careers closely.

He said: "It was great catching up on a few old times and a few bits and pieces I learnt from him that I thought I'd let him know as well.

"He's really proud of how I got on in my career.

"I'm really happy, it was nice for us to see each other again after such a long time."

The Bristol Rovers players Darrell Clarke may look to target at Walsall

The striker, who scored 35 goals in 116 league games for the Gas, says playing for the club ranks as one of his best memories from football.

He said: "I saw a few of the fans here, they told me they were really young when they used to watch me, which is funny.

"It's always going to be great coming back here, where it all started.

"It was one of the best times in my career, it's right up there with Wigan, in terms of favourite places I enjoyed playing.

"Bristol Rovers and Wigan were the two best places to play for me, in terms of supporters, the love and the training every day.

"Everything was just amazing, I really enjoyed my time here."
