Nathan Carter responds after police call to home over birthday party which breached Covid rules

Police were called to the home of country star Nathan Carter after suspected Covid-19 breaches, it has emerged.

PSNI officers reportedly visited the singer on Friday in the Lisbellaw area of Co Fermanagh where a party was taking place.

Nathan was reportedly celebrating his 31st birthday in his luxury home where 50 people were present at the time.

Covid regulations have been lifted in Northern Ireland in recent weeks with outdoor gatherings of up to 500 people permitted.

However, just six people from two households are currently allowed to meet up indoors.

Police say that a total of 15 Covid fines were doled out while a Prohibition Notice was also issued.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Nathan said: "I wish to confirm the attendance of the PSNI at my residence on Friday 28th May 2021.

"My family visiting from Liverpool had organised a Barbecue for my birthday.

"They believed that this gathering was within the current Covid-19 restrictions in the North, however it transpires that it was not.

"The organiser has already paid the fine that was issued.

"Given the restrictions, I realise how irresponsible these actions were and I fully apologise."

A statement from PSNI said: “Police received a report in relation to a house party and a suspected breach of The Health Protection (Coronavirus, Restrictions) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2021 at an address in Lisbellaw at 10.30pm on Friday night (May 28).

“Officers attended the address where at least 50 people were present. Enforcement action was taken, including 14 Cov 7 £200 fines and one Cov 9 £1,000 fine. A Cov 2 Prohibition Notice was also issued.

“Further enforcement action is expected.”

The Liverpool-born star has carved out an impressive career for himself at a young age becoming one of the biggest country music singers in Ireland.

He previously opened up to the Mirror about being in "a state of depression" during the pandemic, where he couldn’t get out of bed.

The popular country singer described music as a ‘drug’ and told how he struggled to go on without it when the industry was forced to shut down.
