Nathan Ake identifies Man City tactic that cost them in Leeds defeat

Manchester City were guilty of pushing forward too much in defeat against Leeds, according to recalled defender Nathan Ake.

City fell behind against Marcelo Bielsa's side in the first half, who were reduced to ten men just before half time when Liam Cooper was sent off for a high challenge on Gabriel Jesus.

With a man advantage for 45 minutes, City saw plenty of the ball in the second half, but took until the 76th minute to level through Ferran Torres. And as the Blues pushed for a winner that would take them one step closer to the Premier League title, Stuart Dallas raced clear in the last minute to score his second goal and condemn City to defeat.

Centre-back Ake was making his first start since Boxing Day, and was sacrificed for Ilkay Gundogan just before the hour mark as Pep Guardiola looked to add an extra dimension to the attack.

Speaking after the game, Ake reflected that City might have committed too many men forward in search of a winner after scoring their equaliser.

"It was frustrating, we knew it'd be tough before the game. The manner how we concede the goals aren't great," he told BT Sport.

"They had a red card, second half we pushed and pushed but we couldn't score the second one. Always after the game it's easier to say [we pushed too many players forward], we left ourselves maybe a bit too open, we were pushing too much to get the second. They're a good counter-attacking team and finished it well.

"The second half how we came out was good, we tried to create, it's difficult when the whole team is behind the ball but we had to keep moving, keep moving. When you get the first one back you feel you can push on. We left ourselves open once for the counter-attack and they scored."

Ake was one of seven changes from the side that beat Borussia Dortmund, but he denied the suggestion that the rotation disrupted the rhythm of the side.

"Maybe you can say that," he said.

"It's one of those days we had a lot of chances but if you don't score it's gonna be tough. We need to make sure we're closer at the back and we didn't today.

"We move on, reflect on this then go to a big game on Wednesday."
