Nat is an ordinary girl with a less than ordinary ‘mega embarrassing’ Dad. With the truly embarrassing moniker of Ivor Bumolé, her Dad is constantly making her cringe with his madcap schemes. Nat also has a best frenemy Darius at school, who has a penchant for gluing toilet seats and letting rats run loose in class.
When a super embarrassing video of Nat dancing goes viral, she becomes an overnight sensation and laughing stock. However, fame brings her new found popularity, which at first she sees as a dream come true. Will she let it go to her head?
Meanwhile, Darius has got himself into so much trouble that if he loses his job at the home for abandoned ugly pets where the bulldozers are set to move in and raze it to the ground, he will be kicked out of school. Newly popular Nat must choose between charity and popularity when Flora, aka miss cool and popular at school, is throwing a pool party that clashes with a fundraiser to save the pets home.
This book uses sarcasm and understatement to hilarious effect. Girls will relate to it as Nat is often worrying about her image and popularity. I enjoyed the character of the Dad, becoming crazier as the book goes on. Amongst the laughs you really wince along with Nat at the situations she finds herself in.
This is a light-hearted read aimed at girls, especially if you judge a book by its cover artwork, but boys would be entertained by this book too. Perfect for an 8+ quick read if you are in need of a giggle. This is the third book of a series, and on the strength of this I will be looking out for the first two Nathalia Buttface books.
